Segmental construction of the South Fork Eel River Bridge (Confusion Hill South Bridge) superstructure has begun at Pier 2. The Pier Table was completed in the beginning of November (Fig. 14) and the first cantilever segment, out of 17 on each side of the pier, was cast using a form traveler on December 13th.
Pier 3 is steadily progressing upward and is about two-thirds of the way to topping out at 200 ft above the top of footing. After the Pier 2 cantilevers are completed in the spring, the travelers will be moved to Pier 3 to begin construction of the final cantilevers. The closure segment tying the two cantilevers together is scheduled to be cast in February 2009. Currently the bypass project is approximately 40% complete.
The slant leg North Bridge is 95% complete and scheduled to be com-pleted in early January. Excavation of the large cut slopes in the region between the two bridges will begin to be trucked out over the North Bridge as soon as it is ready to carry construction equipment.
The entire bypass project is approximately 40% complete.
